I have install the 2008 trial after having the profesional edition of 2005; not sure if this is causing this problem. I am able to access the WSAT with 2008 nut not with 2005. any feedeback on this matter?

Use WCF for All New Web Service Development, instead of legacy ASMX or obsolete WSE
Use File->New Project to create Web Service Projects
