I need to created a database binding to a wpf application which displays a list of clients and their respective contact details. I have created 2 data templates with different key values and datatypes as DataType="{x:Type domain:Client}"
Now when i display it using

ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Clients}" ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource clname}">

<ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Clients}" ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource clcontact}"></ListBox>

It throws an exception and says that itemsource needs to be empty.

Please help me as I am a newbie and i need this done ASAP.

I believe the exception is thrown because your second ListBox is nested in the first one.

Are you explicitly adding items to the ListBox as well as setting the ItemsSource property? Could you post the complete exeption details?

I am using client object to display value fetched from database.

And the complete exception details? If the message is "Items collection must be empty before using ItemsSource" then it means one or more of your ListBox controls has been populated via its Items property before the binding that assigns to the ItemsSource property was evaluated. Try searching for ".Items.Add(" in your code.

dmikon is correct. The second ListBox is being added to the 'Items' collection of the first ListBox beause of the way they are nested. Since you cannot manage ListBox items both explicitly (via the Items property) and via the ItemsSource property, the exception is being thrown.
